  • High idle in a Jimmy

My buddy has a '95 GMC Jimmy, and the SES light just came on.

We went to Autozone to have the code read, and it related to a high idle (can't remember the exact P-code).

The guy behind the counter told us it could be a few things: a dirty throttle body, a vacuum leak, or a bad IAC.

He brought it over tonight and we cleaned the throttle body with some carb cleaner - it's spotless now.

    -Didn't fix the issue.

I don't think it has a vacuum leak, considering it didn't idle like this just before he bought it.

I'm leaning towards the IAC, what do you guys think?

    Thanks.

sounds like it could definitly be a vaccum leak. One of the hoses could be cracked and leaking air in.

I think tomorrow, if he still has the truck (he's taking it to a shop to get the 4WD fixed), I'll go over the vacuum lines (I'd need to find a routing diagram somewhere. Maybe Chilton has one) with carb cleaner to see if we have any bad spots.

If not, then is it safe to assume it's the IAC?

Those things are like $80 - good thing it ain't my vehicle!
