Thinking about a 6 point cage, maybe next winter, and was at my local speed shop today and asked how much they would charge for a 6 point installed. They said $1500 parts and labor, seems high to me, seem high to anyone else? This would be a back half 6 point, there would be no door bars.

whats the point of a back half 6 point if you have no door bars? its not legal you have to have door bars if i recall correctly
but that seems a bit high to me.. im gonna go get a quote for mine here soon larry ill get back to you on it

yeah thats pointless you have to have doors to be legal, do it right and get swingouts. Price doesn't seem too bad you have to figure cost for pulling the interior as well.Doing less with more

Larry, to be legal at any track you'll have to have door bars. You'll thank yourself later for spending the extra $$$ and getting swingout/removable door bars. You can also save yourself some $$$ by pulling the interior yourself.2005 Yamaha R6

Ehm.. I bought an 8 point mild steel cage from S&W Race cars. They had options for my third gen including a bent door bar to clear the stock door handles. I believe I paid under $300 shipped to my house. I also paid a friend of the family who builds cars another $300 to install it.
Your quote seems pretty high although was it for Chromoly or Mild steel? Chromoly is more expensive and must be TIG welded but, its lighter than mild for sure. I'd check with some sponsors on the board.. Maybe Pace could "hook a brotha up"
Also a HOOP is needed at a certain speed which DOES NOT require door bars. If you do plan on doing the six point without door bars.. its really not that big of a deal! Door bars are easy to add at a later time and really only require you to remove a few things
Swing out door bars are cool.. on the passenger side for you GF... No seriously get in the car with the seat in it and they'll measure everything up so you can get in and outta the car without too many issues. Lemme dig up a pic of mine...Last edited by shawnc16; October 29th, 2008, 05:33 PM.-08 G8 GT DD: Rotofab CAI, HID's, Breyton Race GTS'

I wondered about the back halfed 6 point being legal too. He told me it was, which is a good option for me as I don't want door bars, swing out or otherwise... If it's not legal I def won't get one..lol Guess I'll just stay above the 11.49 cut off for a cage..sigpic

Maybe Larry will jump in here and comment on how much Stenod charged him to install his cage. And why don't you just get REMOVABLE door bars so you can take them out and just throw them in at the track.
Here is a pic of a car with a 10 point with removable door bar.
