  • Cost to reman iron SBC heads?

My 84 K10 has started burning an unacceptable amount of oil on a cold start, so i think its time to tear it down and refresh the top end. What's a proper valve job and cleanup running these days?

    Is it smoking?

Yep. it starts about 30 to 60 seconds after startup and continues for at least 15 minutes then stops when the engine gets fully heatsoaked which to me is classic for worn valve guides. Fumes are bad to the point i haven't even been wanting to drive the truck.

This came on rather suddenly so my best guess is I sent the tachometer too far into the ketchup when i was tuning the new distributor. Its revving at least 500 rpm higher than it wanted to before i replaced it.

Wow, that's quite a lot more than the Camaro does. It only seems to blow smoke after you rev it.
