  • Oil recommendations!

    So I have a cam 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa
and some patriot heads. Bought the car like this so no idea about the internals. Just curious as to what weight oil I should be using? I changed the oil with 10w30 and now I'm getting really low oil pressure. Not sure if that has to do with the oil or the pump or hopefully just the sensor...but any advice would be great! Thanks

well oil weight is typically changed based on specific tolerance, if the bottom end has been touched then we dont know the tolerances, but if it wasnt a weak pump or bad sensor. id test it with a mechancial guage before hand but either could be a factor. I wouldnt expect veering from a 30 weight in these applications too often in NA form. your 10w and 5w etc is your winter, im not picky about those in a summer driver overall.

Now personally on an engine that i know the history of and is just a daily i prefer penzoil platinum, i prefer their filtration(or evaporation) process overall the likes of mobile, etc. now if i want to go someething higher end i love my brad penn, joe gibbs has a silicon additive in theres which is pretty crazy, ive seen many folks run it and loose oil pumps and save the motors. its truly preference to some extent. if you really want to get into it bobistheoilguy.com will give you info and spcifications galore!

Its close to 40psi at start up then drops around 10psi and when I'm stopped idling it will drop all the way to the red. It does go back up to like 20psi when I hit the gas but its really low like around 5psi when cruising. Scared to drive it in case the pump is going, but the car only has 56k miles. So hoping its something else, simpler...I think it started getting low b4 I changed the oil but after it was a little worse.

The pickup tube o ring is a common cause of this I do believe. I had a similar issue to this and it was a cam bearing that walked forward blocking the oil port. If you had bearings replaced that is a possibility. Im running Mobil 0w-40 euro blend

I run Rotella T6, 5w40. It's cheap, available everywhere, and a good oil. Ran it in my stock LT1 and now my cammed LM7.
