  • What about a stroker kit?

I have not heard much about stroker kits in any forums. I dont know much about them, but they seem like a good upgrade when doing a rebuild. Anyone have any advise about them? Pros and Cons?

  • #2
I don't think there are any negatives to going with a stroker kit other than the $$$ involved.

On one of the turbo v6 threads, they were recently discussing a new 4.2L stroker upgrade for the 3.8s.

If you've got the cash, go for it.

Yeah, a stroker kit is gonna be very expensive. Not sure about the v6 version but itll probably be a few thousand dollars. If you are rebuilding your engine, go with forged internals (at least pisons) so you can use more boost safely. Might as well upgrade the fuel system too.

$,$,and more $!!!! They are great in any way except that. Me and a buddy of mine built a 355 for his Camaro a few years back. Last fall we tore it out, bored it, honed it, new crank/pistons, and put it back together. His 355 with just stroking it and new pistons/rings making it a 383 picked up over 65hp

One of the guys gave me the website that has the kit for v6s. Its around $2200-2800, depending on performance. What should be done to the fuel system?

Bigger injectors and maybe an upgraded fuel pump.

What would be the max price for a rebuild with a stroker kit, forged internals, and upgraded fuel system? The kit is 2500 itself. I really need to find a better mechanic who can assist me through the process(My current mechanic is not a lot of help). Anyone know any good ones in the metro-Detroit area that focus on performance and not just maintenance?

hey man, it was me who directed ya to the stroker kit. Just so ya know they will sell ya a completely stroked shortblock (price isn't on their site but they will) and you just gotta add heads/intake and you will be on your way instead of having someone put the kit in your car for ya.

Fuel system you will need bigger injectors, walbro fuel pump (a group purchase is going right now that you should get in on for one cheap) and then tuning for the kit and injectors. here is the link to the group purchase for a walbro fuel pump:

http://www.fullthrottlev6.com/forums...ad.php?t=24828 Looks like it will be 129.99 plus shipping if you get in on it.

Any other questions let me know.

I kind of wanted to keep the orginal engine and just rebuild it. Which would be a better option? Also, do you know a good mechanic?

If it was me, I'd buy the new shortblock and stick the original away in a corner.

Never know what kind of surprises you'll have when you crack the original open and start machining and boring.

that site/company quoted a guy 850 to tear his current stock motor down, clean it up, freshen it up, modify it for clearance of stroker, and then put it all back together. I thought 850 was good for teardown, engine work, and reassembly.

What about just getting the new block like you said?
