Man I am so confused. The 2001 Camaro LS1 and the 2004 GTO have the same water pumps but different thermostats. The Camaro has the thermostat and housing as one piece. The GTO has a 2 piece setup. Should I got with the GTO thermostat to match my housing?

Different designs but same function. If you ordered a new pump for a 2001 Camaro it would have a two piece thermostat/housing.

Please clarify, you had a bad stat.? Or improper stat?

Wrong stat. I had a 04+ truck stat laying around that I thought I would give a shot and it worked out!
