So, I've had a 383 stroker shortblock in my possession for some time. It consist of a 2 bolt 350 block, was machined .030 over, splayed 4 bolt mains installed, eagle crank and rods, balanced with flat top pistons. I can't speak too much more on specifics about the block than that, because that's the way I got it. The P.O. was going to run this block with an edlebrock top end kit, but now that I'm looking into buying parts to finish off the top end, I'm slightly confused.
So let me begin with saying that I want this to be a powerful streetable motor. It's not a strip engine, I don't want to break records, but I'd like to be over 400HP. That being said, I want to run it on pump gas. Some places I read online say that if I run 64cc chamber heads with flat top pistons, I'll be over 10.x on my compression ratio. They're saying that it would be difficult to run pump gas with a setup like that, but if I run aluminum heads, I might be able to manage. So my thinking was run with the flat pistons I have, and get a 72ish chamber head, but I'm concerned that I'm not going to end up dropping my compression ratio enough to be able to run pump gas. I'd like to run aluminum heads, and most people say that AFR heads are the best way to go.
So my question, is if I put a 72cc head, on a flat top piston 383 stroker, with standard headgaskets, ... can I run pump gas, and also, will an edlebrock performer RPM intake be OK for this setup? Also what are some suggestions for camshafts?
So TLDR - suggest parts to run a pump gas 383 stroker with flat pistons
