  • Cleaning the block

Ok, working on my sons 89 with the rod knock. We just started working on the donor motor. Insides cleaned out now i'd like to through a coat of engine black on the outside. What should I use to dry the oily parts of the block so the paint will stick.

Headers should be ordered by Friday, motor should be in by next weekend!

Brake cleaner/carb cleaner/lacquer thinner all will work great.

I practically washed my engine with brake cleaner when I pulled it out. I agree with James - that stuff works AMAZINGLY. And it also works REALLY GOOD at getting carbon buildup off of polished exhaust tips too

Ended up using carb cleaner. Making progress. Ordering headers Saturday then we put it back together.

We are planning to build a 350, but this'll get him back on the road so he can get to work.
