  • LT1 crate motor

Hey guys was wondering if anybody has ever heard of a company called Golden Engine out of Hudson, NH? I was messing around on the internet and found this company it seems like a good deal. I want to rebuild my motor and give it some extra power eventually and I want to keep it an LT. They have a 500 hp 383 for 6,999(base price long block) http://www.golenengineservice.com/en...block-383500hp

It seems like a good deal What do you guys think? Has anybody bought or Know of anybody who has bought from them? Also how much have you guys spent on getting your LT motors to these numbers?

i have heard around about them. that sounds cheap and when it comes to motor i worry about what corners where cut. i can build them for that or even alittle cheaper but i have no overhead like they do. the last one i did was for ryan warby and it made 390 at the rear wheels with a slipping clutch and before dr.phil tuned it. im sure its around 420 rwhp due to the fact it was on a mustang dyno and there usaully on the conservative side by 20 hp or so.

call them ask what parts there using right down to the rod bolts. you should ask them:

What crank and material its made of
    what rods and bolts
what kinda of pistons what are they made out of
    what heads
    what cam
what rockers and ratio (if it comes with them)
what push rods and type of material there made of
what intake (if it come with one)
    is it balanced
what all machine work was done to the block.
is the block 2 or 4 bolt

if they dont want to answer your question i would look else where, at $7000 plus shipping there isnt a customer question that should go unanswer'd. hope that helps

The spec sheet pdf has all of the components. They use top quality stuff. Mahle, ACL, Scat, etc. That price is not too bad especially if the warranty is good. But you aren't done at the cost of the long block, you need all the other goodies to go with it, fuel system upgrade, injectors, pump, etc. You will need a throttle body in my opinion. Intake will need work as well. Headers and a quality exhaust of course. Not to mention the tune you will need. A mail order tune would be a waste. You would need a proper dyno tune which is pretty costly. Then we have the rest of the car, rearend, suspension, trans etc. You may already know all this stuff but just throwing it out there if you over looked it. To get an honest 500 horsepower that will stand up to a lot of abuse you would spend about the same. So the price seems reasonable.

That 500 hp is flywheel not rear wheel Horsepower, auto trans etc lose 30% so its 350 rwhp. Katech just posted LS3 crate engine for 4500.

thanks ya I looked at the pdf sheet it all seems like good components.. I was planning on doing a dyno tune, msd ignition kit, i guess they have intake and throttle body I would buy from them that they said goes with the motor, and I would have to see what injector size they would recommend. I already changed out the fuel pump to handle it 255 (mine went bad) already have exhaust covered.

I was planning on before I swap motor out I was going to get strange dana 60 along with all new suspension to hold it,

Then I was going to get a good clutch to go in when I put the motor in. and maybe beef up the trans i dunno

I hate to disagree with people but it will be much more than 350rwhp. I dynoed my stock lt1 A4 at 248 rearwheel on a mustang brand dyno. That is a more realistic 10-20 percent loss. I cannot see losing 150hp through the drivetrain. Don't worry about dyno numbers anyway, worry about track times. With 500hp you will be in the 400rwhp ball park and what a lot of people miss is going with a 383 making only 500 will be a tame combination. No giant cam surging, no serious vacuum issues. And an engine that has gobs of torque in the low to midrange powerband where you will need it 90 percent of the time. With a tame naturally aspirated combo I believe you could leave out forged pistons and run a quality hypereutectic as well so that may be of some cost savings. Golen says they will custom build you an engine. If I were you I would check with some well known local builders. Ask them what they can build you a comparable engine for and then ask what if any warranty they offer.

thanks!!! Ya I was originally looking at rebuilding it myself and it just seems like its way worth buying one already complete with warranty, and still having a spare motor(the original) which I could keep or sell

Do a search for Golen on LS1tech in the LT1 section.
