Nope, the hp/dollar of an LT1 is way lower than that of an LSx engine. How cheap? 5.3L's can be found all day, complete, for far less than $1000.
Lets put it this way: say you had a budget of 4K, if an LT1 was way cheaper to install than an LSx, and you put the extra money into mods, the LSx will still walk it.Last edited by jetice; March 8th, 2012, 12:41 PM.

hes asking 500 for it and thats what it says in the add alum block. I would have to see it to believe it. That what I was thinking that the lt1 would be a waste to build once im next to a lsx motorsigpic

Do people honestly have those 5.3s running that good? I know they are cheap, is that the only appeal to them? Id honestly never go through all that work to just use a 5.3.-Joel

If it's the engine of choice for Larry (1BADAIR), it sounds good enough for what my needs would beOriginally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostDo people honestly have those 5.3s running that good? 5.3 and a cam is good enough for 330 at the wheels.

would you guys agree if I'm doing a budget build that a 5.3 would be a good motor choice? if there good for boost then maybe later on down the road would do a turbo or supercharger set up. What all would I need because I know that I can reuse a lot of parts on my v6. I know k-member is just matter of moving the motor mounts and trans is the bell housing and the some other part I forget what it is. Swaping the computer.sigpic

Mod for mod a 5.3 and an LT1 will be very close in performance. An aluminum 5.3 is lighter, has a better ignition system, better computer system, and can be found for just as cheap if not cheaper than most LT1's.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostDo people honestly have those 5.3s running that good? Some would call me an Lsx nut swinger but I really see no reason to use an LT1 anymore. That is unless it came factory in a car you already have.

Bell housings are different, and I think there are fewer clutch discs in the 3-4 pack for v6 trans.
Last I heard, a friend of mine is putting down a little over 475 at the wheels in his stock aluminum block 5.3 Silverado w/ boost.
