Official V6-V8 Engine Swap Thread

I admit, I am a newbie to Automotive Mechanics. Therefore I want to branch out and become more technically inclined. This thread is intended to be a place for us 1st Timer Engine Swappers to see the process of an engine swap.

I have run across many (Here is what it was and here is what it is) threads. I think there are a lot of V6 guys who could appreciate the knowledge here. If you have a walkthrough or a link to one please post it. One with pics or diagrams would be greatly advantageous.

I am planning on a swap motors out of my car this winter and would appreciate greatly seeing how it is done. Thanks!

im with you i wanna do a ls1 swap into my 95 camaro and i dont care how hard or anything anyone says because when its done it will be something im proud of!

Sean from CARS just did an LS1 swap into a beater 93ish 3.4 camaro.

mostly just drop the K-member motor and all. then you will need an LS1 k-member, or new motor mounts on your V-6 K-member.

going to have to make or swap some sort of fuel rails that have returns on them, as the LS1's have a returnless rail setup. the PCM needs to be swapped. along with that will be some wiring and other headaches...

and it would be smart to swap out the V6 2 piece DS for a steel or chromoly 1 piece, don't even bother with the stock aluminum 1 piece LS1 shaft as they are not too hard to twist....oh your rear end will blow shortly there after as well...

it's not the hardest thing in the world, but if you don't have the right tools, you will be SOL and it will make the job damn near impossible.

if you're a "noobie" to being a mechanic, a motor swap is probably not the first project you should try to tackle ... just my $0.02

I did a LT-1 swap. Tuffest part was 1 wireing issue and suspention work.

Anyone ever swap over a carb'd 305/350 into an 93-97 car? I just found out that my cousins room mate has a 1993 3.4 Camaro with a seized engine. My best friend has a 305 he just tore out of his 85TA so we could drop in a 355 in his car. How hard would it be to attempt to put a 1985 SBC 305 into an 93 V6 car? The 305 is a shit motor stock but bore it .010 over, put a small cam, headers/full exhaust, nice intake, bigger carb (I think its like a 425cfm stock), upgrade the igniton a little and that would be a fun project. Shit for building the engine for say $1,200 and buying the car for $1,200 I wouldnt even feel bad about driving it on michigan salted roads Nov-Apr.

I bought a wrecked 1995 camaro with 45k some miles on it. I know a very good person who ownes the strickley only firebird and camaro shop I ever seen in Pa. He goes all over the east coast to buy cars (camaros and firebirds). He went to Boltamore to get the one I got. Then he brought it to my garage and I did the swap. Me and my friend did it in about 30 hours.
