  • 93 4.3 truck motor swap

Well I hope this is ok to post in here. I just picked up a 93 Chevy Full size WT with a blown 4.3 auto. I wanna get an engine back into it and just a simple swap is all I am looking for so I can get rid of my Ford 4x4 and parts truck. My 4WD is killing me in gas.

Anyways, I am looking to find out what years will be a easy swap-change intake ,valve covers, misc accessories and TBI and boom I am off and running.

I just spoke to a salvage yard that said 92s are not compatible and neither are Vortecs-which I understand why vortecs will not work with the TBI cause of the heads-

I found a 94 jimmy 4x4 with 146k miles, does not smoke runs and drives for 300 bucks complete truck,(most salvage yards want 300 for just an engine) hit a deer, this should be an ok quick swap shouldn't it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what do you mean...not compatible? Are you not swapping the entire engine or what?

you can swap anything in that truck if you have the electronics with it, even an LS1.

I'd put a V8 in it while you are doing the work.

I am just wanting a running economy vehicle right now, I am planning, if money lets me, to do a LS swap over in the truck later on.. its an extremely clean truck that is the only reason for doing this now..

I guarantee an EFI V8 would be better on gas than a TBI v6 as long as you kept your foot out of it.

I still dont really understand your question, but I personally would get find a wrecked truck for a donor with the whole she-bang. engine, trans, computer, harness, etc. I would be looking in the direction of a 2000+ 5.3L truck.

he is just looking to find what year 4.3 will swap in.

i had a 94 tbi s10. which is kinda wierd becuase from what i have found it should have had a balance shaft but didnt.
the TBI , cpi had diff cams. no sure if the cpi and sfi had the same or not

I am unsure what is throwing you off on the question. It was simple and to the point.. I need to know if there are things I need to be aware of that might throw a simple switch of a donor 4.3 into this 93 pickup.

If I had the cash yeah I would do everything new and fancy and blah blah blah.. I am sorry I don't have the cash you feel I should have to do a kickass cool swap of a V8.

thanks Bad.. I was unsure what could possibly be uncompatible with a 4.3 long block to long block besides the vortec heads if anything, that was all I was curious about.. thanks for your input.

                lol thank you.

it was the whole bit about valve covers and intakes that confused me. Im not accusing you of anything, just didnt make sense to me.

as far as an engine out of a blazer or S10 i am not sure, but with fullsizes you probably limited to 93-95. im also pretty sure the last year for mechanical trans was 92, which would explain what the guy at the salvage yard said.

Im not 100% positive but, I think you can mate a TBI intake to vortec heads.

edit: you need a carb manifold to do that:
                http://forums.s-series.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=52096

The vortec stuff came all at once, so for ease I would avoid anything vortec unless you get the trans and computer with it.

Ok Joel sorry for gettin mad, I am under the weather and have tons on my plate, just hit me wrong..

Here is the situation, I have found 2 donor trucks. Both I can get for about 300 bucks one is a 89 s10 4x4 and the other is a 94 jimmy 4x4. NOTE- I also found a 89 4.3 40k miles in GR but cannot hear it run, its just the engine. also $250

My truck is a 2wd and 93 not seeing anything on the heads saying its a vortec but that can be just me not seeing it.

The 89 has around 50-60k miles and the body is junk, but runs and drives on the road. got pics of this one, cancerous rotted carcass.
The 94 has 146k does not smoke, runs and lot drives but hit a deer. the owner says its a nice truck with parts worth using or selling, cannot get pics of this one.

My plan is simple, get one, jerk engine out, throw unwanted excess scrap in the bed and scrap the truck. I figured the 89 would be the best bet cause I should be able to swap the stuff from my motor to it and swap in no probs, with the vortec I would have to get an intake and BS that I don't wanna deal with right now.

Trying to attack this as easily and less hassle as possible.

the 89 will have a mechanical trans while the 93 has an electronic. Engine should be the same so I think it will swap without hitch, but that might be something you'd want to double check.

93 "should " have a balance shaft. 89 wouldnt but that shouldnt affect anything
