I bought these vortec heads cast number 10239906 a couple months ago as some of you might remember. Well today my dad told me to get them a valve job so i went up to Mazza's and they want 120$ to do it. So if i do that id have about 370$ in these things.
I start to look around online and im seeing that hot rod and a few websites are saying that these heads are garbage and to avoid, but ive heard also that these are supposed to be high flow heads...now im getting confused
Should i just sell them and buy the brand new 450$ vortec heads from a website? Im starting to think so. What should i do??

"For you junkyard hunters, be forewarned that some ¾- and 1-ton trucks came with Vortec heads equipped with a specially hardened exhaust seat that kills low- and mid-lift flow. Casting number 10239906 should be avoided."
this is a thread started years ago on the same topic, still confused

"The easiest way to identify a Vortec head is by the sawtooth pattern cast into the front. Look for casting number 12558062, but avoid casting number 10239906, which has a modified exhaust seat and loses 20 percent of its flow at 0.120-inch lift." IDK what that lift means but i think i will have more than that?
wait!

"They are available under 2 casting numbers 10239906 and 12558062. Both casting are good and performance wise they have no difference."
