I have a chevy 350 with center bolt heads.I have drove this car less than 1000 miles and it has gone through 4 quarts of oil. I park it in a garage and no puddles on the ground. Doesn't smoke going down the road. Where would a good place to start be? Leak down test? rings or valves?

easiest thing is pull the plugs, proper burn is light tan, black is rich, usually fluffy black is oil burn. Wouldn't hurt while plug out to check compression if you have access to gauge. Oil smoke is blue steam and moisture are white exhaust. If it is smoking on deacceleration and idle that sounds like valve stem seals. That is a lot of oil 4 qts in a 1000 miles. Best is pull a couple of plugs that will tell you.sigpic
