  • 3.8 to ls1 couple questions

ok i know the basic things i would need but im not sure if there is anything im missing, ive seached around but didnt see any thing about LS1 swap into 98-99 3.8's

LS1(obviously), LS1 K-member/ suspension, wiring harness/ecu from a 98-99 V8, 6speed trans, driveshaft, rear axle, fuel pump/lines, radiator, and other things im probably not thinking of because its late

is there other things that have to be changed?

From what I understand - atleast from a 3.4L to an LT1 - fuel pump and line replacement is not necessary. Rear end is not absolutely necessary either, you'll just have an open diff and possibly a lower gear ratio. Again, this applies to LT1 swap but might apply just the same to LS1, the LT1 throttle cable is a different length than the 3.4L throttle cable - could be the same problem from 3.8 to LS1. E-brake cables are different for me too. I haven't checked cruise control but if the throttle cable is different, I would imagine that the cruise control is too? Anyway, there's some items for ya to comp on - I'd recommend searching CamaroZ28 or LS1Tech or Camarov6.com to get some info on the above stuff I mentioned to make sure it still applies to 3.8->LS1.

probabaly want to change your speedo since 3.8 goes to what 125, other than that you said suspension, umm don't know what exhaust you have, if you already have 3" then your fine. If you have an open diff you'll probabaly want to change that out as well. You won't "need" a new driveshaft but the ls1's did use an aluminum one piece over the two piece steel us 6er's have. Meissen is right though there is a guy on camarov6 that made a swap chart, that tells exactly needs to be switched out in order for the swap to work. I was hoping to do this, this summer but the whole job thing took a turn for the worst let me know how it turns out for you.

speedo is in the basement waiting to be swapped, rear end has a Eaton differential w/ stock gears 3.23 iirc and the cat-back is Borla but i think its only 2.5"

right now im just trying to find a decent LS1 to build (cam, rockers, intake, all the other goodies) and get the other parts im gonna need but the actual swap is going to be awhile because im going to finish building my grand prix
