Is it a BOP TH400 or a Chevy TH400? I'd tell him $100. Keep the tranny if its a chevy one and put the motor on ebay, somebody will buy it. If the tranny is a chevy one its worth the $100 just for the case. IMO. BTW the difference I'm talking about is the bell housing bolt pattern in case you didn't know.

The 403's are a decent motor in the lower band. I guess the don't handle higher RPM's too well. It might be worth it to store it for like 5 years. At the moment 403's aren't in too big of a demand. Most put the Pontiac 400 in their bird. But the market is always changing so you never know.

yeah well the guy doesn't wanna buy my truck so i'm not gonna take the motor off his hands, besides it would just take up space, and i'm not sure if its a chevy or a BOP trans.

GM never made a 405, it is probably a 305 , & you do not wantone of them, to small, if you are going ot swap get a 350 or 400 sbc. or an newer LT11 or LS1.
a 400 small block would have to be bored out ot about 25 thousands, to be a 405 & no one would do that because you cant get that size pistons, unless you pay a boat load of money!
