  • Pulling the 3.8

I was hoping to get some advice, or even step by step instructions on the best way to get the 6 out. I know really what has to be done (unhook everything and lift the car and slide out the k member) but I was kinda hopping someone would have some advice.

Where is a good place to start? Electrical? Or just start unhooking stuff until there's nothing left?

What the heck do I do with the A/C, how do I get the refrigerant out and safely dispose of it?

Whats the best way to NOT get coolant everywhere and yet drain the system?

ANY advice is appreciated, and if I get some kind of schedule I may do something like Brian did and have all of you come do all the work and I just sit and watch, haha. But seriously, if anyone is in the area and wants to help when I get a day figured out let me know.

...or pull the lines off like we did.

Just make sure you're...not in front of them.

too bad you are not nearby, I have had to pull mine twice now, lol.

First, relieve fuel pressure before unhooking the battery. Can be done by pulling the fuel pump fuse and cranking a few times.

With coolant, you can drain the radiator out using the drain plug at the lower passenger side of the radiator and open your radiator cap for air to come in from the top else it won't all drain out. You are going to spill some no matter what unless you have a machine to suck it out when you disconnect the radiator hose from the waterpump. thermostat side there really shouldn't be any.

If you are going with the ls1 harness and pcm just unhook the harness at the pcm instead of removing all the connectors from the engine. Then you will have to remove the evap vac lines and brake booster line as well.

Kind of a start there for ya. Let me know when/if you need more advice. I can go through it as you need. It would be pretty lengthy if I tried to type it all

Are you going out from the bottom or the top? What lifting capabilities are at your disposal?

I wasn't the one who did it. And it wasn't at work.

We were letting it bleed out, then the line popped off...

...a few people from here might recall that.

Yeah it just blew off and spewed refrigerant gas all of my garage.

I used this as my reference while we were unhooking things, it's for a v8 but most of the stuff still applies:

We started half electrical half mechanical just disconnect everything.

Its coming out the bottom, I can borrow a buddies cherry picker, im guessing illl have to. The only issue I have is room in front of the car, I only have about a foot and a half with the garage door closed, and I dont exactly want to open it this time of year. I might have to see if I can park it sideways in there. How much room in front of the car do I need to lift it up properly?

But if I park it sideways I loose garage space where Im trying to build the motor, ughh.

You're going to have to open the garage, there's no way you can do it with the garage closed. The cherry picker will take up like 3-5 feet infront of the car while you lift it up. You'll just have to tough it out or wait until the weather starts to warm up.

get everything ready to go, and then when it is time to finally left the body up then open the door. Shouldn't be open that long, just long enough to attach, lift, slide drivetrain out and lower again until you are ready for an engine to go in.

I kinda figured thats what I would have to do. What do you use to set the motor and tranny on to wheel it out from under the car?

I have a ATV/snowmobile lift that can crank up from the ground and move all over, works great. Get some moving dollies otherwise and put them under the drivetrain

Do I need the fuel line removal tool or is it something I can get without it? Can I rent it at like auto zone?
