Hey Everyone,
Ok.. So ive been trying to get my car running good for a real long time now, I've had problem after problem with it, I just seem to have such bad luck, at some points wanting to push it into Lake Erie.
But now, on the third engine and third transmission the life of this car has had, I think I'm finally getting it right.. lol
My car, 1983 Chevy Camaro Sports Coupe, originally came with a 2.8L V6 and 3 speed automatic transmission (engine and transmission number 1).
I bought the car summer of 2006, this upcoming summer will be the 3rd year I've owned the car, and I still haven't really driven it, Technically I legally drove it once, without being towed.. lol
anyways, back to the original story.. I bought an L98 engine(2nd engine) from someone through thirdgen.org i believe, I drove to kzoo to pick it up, the engine looked decent, so i cleaned it up a little and dropped it in, I bought a trans off a guy i used to goto school with..(2nd trans) I got the car running and was really happy and excited.. just to find out the trans the guy sold me was junk.. so my car sat for a year before i bought another trans and put it in. (3rd trans)
this last summer I got the new trans in and was excited.. got some exhaust on it, a holley carb.. it ran good.. and sounded amazing.. I drove it to work one morning, because I worked at a tire shop at the time.. and was gonna have them fix the brakes.. they wanted to charge way too much, so I decided to drive it home.. on my way home.. my engine siezed up.. my own stupid fault for not putting in an oil pressure guage..
I had a leak that i didnt know about.. that only seemed to leak when i was driving the car.. because it didnt leak at idle.
so needless to say, i was pissed.. about ready to get rid of it, I let it sit all summer.. and about a month ago, I decided to work on it again.
The project now is.
my buddy has a built 350 that he had in his suburban, its a mild build.. probably around 300hp or so, well his suburban has some electrical problems, and he really doesnt drive it, so we decided to take the engine out of it and put it in the camaro(3rd engine).
so far on this project we have the engine out of the suburban, taken apart, and starting to clean up the block.
we are replacing the timing chain with a gear drive (people are telling me this is a bad idea.. but we are gonna do it anyways.. so please dont make a big deal outta it) the engine is an L05 engine, I know L05 heads arent the greatest heads, but this isnt an expensive swap.. just trying to get something in the car so we can drive it.. we rebuilt the heads and are about to put them back on.
I went out and bought a new set of headers, ceramic coated hedman shorty headers, they look pretty sexy.. not gonna lie.. a mini starter, and some other little odds and ends..
itll be running a holley 650 carb, on a summit brand aluminum intake.. an a MSD style HEI distributor.. the engine is gonna look pretty nice.. so hes putting that all together.. in the mean time.. I got the engine pulled out of my camaro.. and now its time to clean up and paint the engine bay..
I also bought a 4" harwood lift off cowl hood.. and a B&M megashifter.. the car is really starting to come together.. I'll get some pics for you guys as soon as I can.. and keep you updated.. its starting to get real exciting.. I really wanna take it to the M&G this year.
