edelbrock carburator question

ok i want to put an edelbrock quadrajet carb on my 305. the 305 has an edelbrock performer intake, it sounds like it has a very mild cam in it. but that is all i really know about it. how big of a carb can this engine handle. i know it can take a 600 but can it handle a 650 without drowning the engine with fuel. can anyone help. thank you

I wouldn't put an Edeljunk on my lawnmower. I'm a firm believer in marine quadrajets.

A 600-625 Edelbrock would be just fine.

Wouldn't go bigger than that...you could go smaller actually if the heads are stock.

Had a Holley on one of mine...was constantly adjusting it...dropped a Edelbrock on, set the idle, and never touched it again.

My dad had the same result with his Chevelle...and he ditched his Street Demon for it.

Rock solid carbs in my book.

ok thank you i have a rochester on the engine right now and i am always adjusting it and i have never even got to drive the car. so i am getting a good carb

I have the Edelbrock 1407 750cfm on the '73. Best carb I've ever had. As Jeff said, set it once and forget it.
You think it has some cam so it comes down to what heads. If you have really good heads, you could get a 750 other wise you will be fine with a 600-650.

i dont know what the heads are but i would have to bet they are stock. anybody got any heads that are better than stock that i could buy

600 range is fine, anymore is overkill

I love the Carter/AFB style edelbrocks.
I don't think he was talking about that style though

Edelbrock carbs = junk IMO.

My nephews one on his 72 Formula, Junk (came with the car)
Swapped to a Holley.

My brother in laws 69 Firebird edelbrock junk, (came with the car)
Also swapping to a Holley.
