  • LT1 Build...

    Ok guys, question for ya...

Theres an fully built Lt1 turn-key engine rated at about 400 hp..heads cam ect. ect. all the goods with a tuned computer, how hard and what exactly would be needed to put this LT1 engine into a stock LT1 car?

Im engine swap stupid and i dont know the first thing when it comes to swapping. Could i just pull the stock LT1 engine and put in the built engine? using the other original stock parts? i.e the trans .... how much do ya guys think it would cost (if needed extra parts, or things to change)

P.S. my LS1 car has nothing to do with this lol

I don't understand what you're asking. You have an ls1 car yet you're talking about an lt1? You want to put lt1 parts on a stock lt1?

It would be easy, do you have an engine hoist? undo motor mounts, disconnect lines and your basically set. If it has bigger injectors you may wanna swap fuel pump, etc

Yeah, I would think the actual swap of the engine would be fairly simple since you're just unbolting, disconnecting, taking one engine out of the way, putting built engine back in, rebolt and reconnect. But like Sam mentioned -- the supporting mods the guy with the build engine used would be what you'll need to pay attention to.

so its just basically unbolting, un-connecting? yea theres a hoist. I figured the new motor mounts would be needed, is there any write up of just swapping an lt1 with another lt1, just so i have an idea of what would be done? Theres a computer with the engine so i figured not much programming/tuning would be needed, and the trans would be kept/rebuilt also.

                You should be ok.
Just lable everything, maybe take some pictures.

Once you drop the stock motor out and you have the new motor sitting side by side.
You can start swapping things from one motor to another.
                Brackets, pullies, ect.

Just make sure you take your time and mark everything.

unplug & label sensors, wires, etc (i used zip ties & little notecards

It is probably easier to drop the transmisson along with the engine...just unbolt the kmember and trans member, driveshaft, ABS & brake fluid lines/resivoir, unbolt steering at knuckle, either undo the fuel lines or just take the fuel rail off the engine, undo the shock towers, coolant hoses, etc etc

all that is dropping the kmember out from the car, which is alot easier than pulling the engine out the top (at least for me)
