I would take that carb to the guy who rebuilt it, he should have noticed a crack like that...unless if you overtightened it or something?

engine looks nice, you should get an aftermarket carb if you got the money

they are like $265 at autozone for an edelbrock 750 is that to much carb for that 305. i dont have that kind of money at this point and i want the car going this weekend because if it is running good it is going to the meet & greet but if its not running by this weekend then it is cutting it to close because i dont really want to break down on the way to or from the m&g. does any one have a nice manual choke carb on here that they will sell cheap because if i can go get the one at autozone for $265 i would go get it but i dont have that kind of money oh and i would need to know fast so i could get it this weekend or before.
      thank you.

i would look on ebay. You can get a edelbrock 600 for $50-75

750cfm is to much for a stock 305 at least to my knowledge

a 750 would probably flood a 305, youd probably even have trouble with a 650.

thank you for all your help i went yp to the mechanic that help me rebuild the carb and he gave me a new base since we never took the bottom of the carb when we rebuilt it ans he didnt see that break. but anyway i worked on it until about 12:10 this morning and she started right up with no problems i havent even timed it yet and it just purres and guess what no smoke i believe every cylinder is fireing in order like i said it sounds great.
thanks again for all your help. and adam thank you so much for finding this engine for me you are awsome. now for the transmission i want it a 5 speed but i cant find the right flywheel so i guess the auto is going in until i find the flywheel.
                    thank you Dustin

750 is extremly way to much to run on a 305...

                          i wouldn't even go with a 600-650..

holly 4412 2 bbl 500 cfm, and jet it a little bigger then stock and your in the ballpark..

no sense wasting money on a 650 or so, when your not even gonna have room to play.

i have always used 4412's (thats what is legal in the classes i have run)

and they are extremly good carbs. built well and work very well..
