  • 3.1 to a turbo 3.8 from a GNX:3rd gen

anyone ever heard of swapping a 3.1 to a buick gnx motor on any 3rd gen before. Theres a guy where i live who has three grand nationals, two in the garage, mint condition, and one outside for parts i was thinking about going to his house and asking him about the parts car

WHY NOT??! I say do it. The V6 turbos were amazing cars. DEFINITLY ask him.

I've seen a few motor swaps fron GNx's turbo 3eights into camaros before. if you can get one of those motors i say go for it!....it should make for a nice setup!

I'm pretty sure that the guy with the red RS that was at the car show last year had a GN motor in his, all chromed out and all. He said it was a ***** to get in.

the only thing i could think of is the transmission might need to be changed... but they did have the turbo TA which was a GNX motor dropped into a 3rd gen... all you would have to do is buy the mounts for that motor and see if your trans will still work... i wouldnt think it would be a hard swap at all in a 3rd gen... a 4th ya you dont have the space really for the turbo...

I think the hardest part will be finding a gnx motor. It's not like they are all over salvage yards

well hes saying his neighbor has 3 2 good ones and a parts car... thing is anthign on that car is worth some cash now... they are getting hard to come by... im not sure if he will be willing to let a GN matching engine go very cheep but who knows ask him what he wants... the swap itself would be easy getting the motor is the hard part

now is it a grand national or a gnx? They are very different the gnx in a box is worth about 50 grand (was only a 1 or 2 year built special edition grand national)

well i know the 2 garage kept ones are both GNX, but i'm not sure about the other one, i never really gotten close enough to see it. The guy is a Vietnam vet with no legs so i'm sure he doesn't have much use for those cars.

The guy with the red RS is Derek Call. Ive seen pictures of his install, and seen it in person, its quite an amazing car. He also claimed to have walked an 03 cobra.

that has nothing to do with driving, there are millions of parapalegics driving every day, they use hand controls
