  • LS1 Oil Filter

I may have missed a previous post about this topic, and I apologize if I did, but I was just wondering what filter most of you are using, such as brand and part number.
I normally use AC Delco or Wix. The recommended AC Delco PF46 sure seems small, which I am told will be fine, and I am told that the truck filter PF61 will hang slightly below the oil pan.
Just wondering what you guys know from experience.
    Thanks.

I use either the mobile 1 or k and n.

EDIT: Just realized this is for ls1's. But brand shouldnt matter. I think most use the pf46, penzoil screwed me last time I was there they put a 46 on our truck. I was thrilled...

there is a guy on ls1tech that has done oil testing on ls1's. He loves the k&n filter.
I use ac or kNn. Fram is junk.
I thought about using the longer k&n truck filter but I don't like the fact that its below the oil pan

My car has never had anything but Mobil 1 oil and AC Delco filters since new so I've just continued the streak.

The Grand Marquis gets whatever is on sale that week! In 82k I've put on that car I've probably never used the same oil brand, grade, or filter twice!

I found this list of oil filters for the LS1 when I first got my car. I used to run the long filters until I lowered it. I had no issues with the long filter at stock height. Being lowered I didn't want to hit something with it and tear it open. I run Purolator Pure One filters.

          AC Delco PF44
          AC Delco PF58 (long)

          Purolator PureOne PL14006
          Purolator PureOne PL25288 (long)

          Purolator L14006
          Purolator L20123 (long)

          Mobil 1 M1-107
          Mobil 1 M1-206 (long)

          NAPA 1045 (long)

          Amsoil ASF 30 (long)

          WIX 51045 (long)

Even though I hate Frams, here's the numbers I have for them
          Fram PH 3506
          Fram PH 3675 (long)

Thanks for the info guys. I read in a GM Racing guide that they recommend PF44 and if space permits PF59. And when I went to the dealership to ask about these they told me that PF44 was replaced with the PF46 and PF59 was replaced with the PF61 (which are available at most parts stores). I am lowering the car, so I guess I won't bother with the long filters.
I was also told by the local parts place that the short Wix number is #51522, and the short or should I be saying cross referenced replacement filter in NAPA is #1042.
Can anyone verify those numbers for me??
            Thanks.

Don't know too much about oil filters, I have just used mobil 1 since I bought the car. What's the advantage of using a longer filter?

Slightly more oil capacity and slightly more filter media. Not worth it if your changng them out every 3K miles.

Yea, I figured that's about all it was. Car is too low for a longer filter anyways. Don't need another thing to worry about getting ripped off down there.

At stock height there's no issues with a long filter. I ran one on my car for years until I lowered it last winter. With a long filter it sits just slightly higher up than the front cross member and maybe 1/2 to 3/4" below the bottom of the oil pan.

the filter doesn't sit lower then the pan if it does its so small its not even worth measuring, heres my oil pan sitting flat and the filer is even

i've ran the k&n the part where you put the socket on it to get it off hangs down maybe 1/4 of a inch at most past the pan

my car has the prokit on it now and its nothing to worry about

That must be shorter than the Pureolator PureOne I run because that did hang below the pan by 1/2" or so.
