  • Need help identifying my motor...

when i bought my car i was told it had a "Rebuilt" motor in it... Implying it was the stock 305 just rebuilt... I believe its not... Or if it is the stock TBI and heads aren't on my car. I'm assuming at least...Reason why i think that is because on the vaccum diagrams they show 4 things coming out of the front of the TBI.. Mine has 3... Then the heads aren't center bolt valve covers like they should be... They go along the edge.. Although i have edelebrock valve covers not stock.

so i need help identifying my stuff...

Th numbers i could find( I know on the back of the head apparently there is a number... couldn't find it though)

L195( or at least thats how it looked to me) Was on the backside of the engine about the tranny. Near the distributor area.

Then on the intake it says W4 Gm 14102182

Can anyone help me out in identifying my things if that will get you there.... If not can someone point me in the direction to other places to look on the motor.... Motors in the car so i can't like disassemble anything to find it.

The motor should be an 89 305 TBI... However she may not be.

The intake is a standard 305/350 intake for 89...used on both of them.

    I can't find anything for a L195.

Know any other places to look to find casting numbers?

If its on the rear of the engine on the passenger side i have no idea... i still have all of my emmisions and a/c so i have no way of checking that...

I thought it was on the drivers side though.

the easiest way to id the engine i found was the id plate on the front of the engine on the passengerside of the block which was behind my alternator. then take those numbers and look at www.camarosource.ca they have all kinds of stuff there (my 305 had the letters SDK)

pre 86 heads i believe had side bolts.

Update- I've identified the block... Well sort of. The block came out of a boat... thats all i know so far really... Blocks from a boat(no idea on year), heads are pre 86, intake is stock, No idea on TBi...

That's kinda odd...what makes you think it came from a boat?

Most boat motors came from cars originally...now if you have a true marine-intent block, this could get interesting...

Lol the kid i boat the car from we swapped what are you doing to the vechile now stories... Then i ask if he knew anything about the motor... he said he knew the heads were different and the block was from a boat.

So if i can identify it we'll find out for sure.
I still believe the TBI isn't original... all the vaccum diagrams show things up front mine has 3...unless I'm complete clueless in what I'm taking about. Gene... the kid i bough it from is supposed to be asking his cousin tonight more details about the motor.
