  • LS6 w/ a TH400 in a 94

As some of you know I found a 94 V6 FIrebird for 800 that had an engine fire that stayed in the engine bay and I'm going to turn it in to a full drag car so I don't ruin my 93 that I have worked on so hard.

I'm trying to dig up info on doing this build but I havn't had any luck

I tried LS1Tech but all I can find ar RX7's, S-10's, 1st & 2nd Gen's that have trans planted LS motors in thier vehicles but have retained the fuel injection.

My plan is to run a LS6 with a Eddlebrock carb setup and a MSD box to run the coils.
I have the motor, car and trans already so now all I have to do is figure out how to get all this stuff to work as one??
What I need to know for starters is:
    Engine mounts & tranny mounts?
Will LS Long Tubes fit this car?
What kind of stuff do I need for the trany to work with the TH400?
I want to go with a tubular K Memeber, what one will work with my car/setup?
Does any one have any sites that can help me?
I know I need a LS Rack and stearing assembly to work with this.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Ya Shawn, if I can get all the brackets and stuff figured out I will be golden.

Then I will concentrate on building the motor, we will see how it goes??

I hope to have this thing ready by next year

Well I got a BUNCH of money by default, no kidding.

I had to pick between a lawn tractor or a drag car, I picked tha car.
Then I just keep my eyes open for deals.
          TH400 I got for 350.00
Found the car for 1000 and kept an eye on it for a month, the price droped 200.00 and I jumped.
The LS 6 was on Racing Junk and ended up being a local guy who knows James, he had it in pieces and I got it for 500.00.

So all together I have 1650.00 into my project so far

Wow I wish I knew more about it. It sounds like a bad azz build to say the least. So are you going Carbed on the LS6 or FI?

th400 swap should be the same as any reg th400 swap, should find plenty on help/info on ls1 tech. The LS6 swap into it will just like an ls1 swap, same motor basically. Should be able to find more info there as well pretty easily. I would think longtubes would work just fine..... i would think any ls1 header would work as its an ls1 engine in an f-body car? Since your going to need the front rack and such, mise well just get the ls1 kmember and bolt up your engine direct to it, would be a straight swap i'd think, then just go from there with the th400..... Its still a 4th gen f-body, not much should be different. I'm off to bed or else i'd help you search. Should be a fun project. IMO, i would stay Fuel Inj, just put in a big cam and a good stall, add some spray

Well I don't know how but I know that TH400 will fit and bolt up to that block, also LS everything will fit on that block it only has minor difference from an LS1 anyways. Check with SS4matt or Larry on the trans though as they may have seen the swap before.

suspension parts are interchangable between v6 and v8 cars.

Get a tubular kmember with motor mounts for an ls1 and it will fit in just fine

hood clearance for the carb setup is gonna be an issue

Steering rack will work from the v6, just not a tight ratio like the v8 ones, so you have a different turning radius and feel in the steering wheel.

                        Engine mounts & tranny mounts?
you will need a v8 crossmember, id go with a tubular one. Im not sure about the trans mount, but John who has the car 90% the same as what youre creating is running a TH350, so he should know.
Will LS Long Tubes fit this car?
as long as the trans isnt in the way, yes.
What kind of stuff do I need for the trany to work with the TH400?
You will need a TV cable to make it work without electronics. Should be a piece of cake since you'll be attaching it to a carb instead of a EFI TB.
I want to go with a tubular K Memeber, what one will work with my car/setup?
check out BMR's website. go with the 98-02 LS1 k-member if there is even a difference between LS1 and LT1. If not 93-02 V8.
Does any one have any sites that can help me?
No, but get in contact with my friend john. wasjo#### (?) on this site, his aim is JOWAS03. tell him i sent you.

As travis said youre going to need to do some hacking at the cowl to make a carb fit, as well as the hood if you dont put a cowl on.

here are some pictures of John's setup that you might find helpful.

It is a very straight forward process.

                            Engine mounts & tranny mounts?
