Some clarification needs to be made about the LT1's. The iron head Impala heads out flow the Firebird heads. The Corvette heads used the iron head dies for their development. For a durable reliable street car the iron heads are great. The reverse flow cooling of the LT1 engines keeps the high temps down. 160 stat, mechanical gauge in rt head, 160-170 cruising. I have a 94 iron head engine in a 69 Firebird and it runs great. The engine you have, atleast the PCM is a 1996. That is OBDII. You can change it over to OBDI with new PCM and tuning. If you leave it OBDII you will need to run the pre and post cat O2 sensors. Search the internet for the conversion to OBDI, it is cheaper to tune and a lot less hassle. I did a swap in a 66 Chevelle and changed it to OBDI. The biggest difference in the LT1's in the Impala's and F car or 'vettes is the camshaft. Change the springs and cam and the iron head will run just a good. I have chassis dynoed mine and my torque converter did not lock and I have not reprogrammed since I put 30lb SVO injectors in and a 58mm throttle body on, but I still put down 284 rwhp and 295 rwtq, I scan ee a good increase after a reflash, TCC now fixed. I have the f car MAF which is larger that the Impala, ZZ4 cam, mild porting, mid length headers, 1.6 roller rockers, crane beehive springs, 30 lb SVO injectors, CAI, 58mm TB, and a the car needs to reprogrammed. I may be selling the whole engine package as a drop-in. About a 5 wire hookup for the new owner. Kicking around a 6.0L LSx engine.

Thanks for the great info. Actually it looks like I'm going a different direction. I'm getting another LT1 and will be selling the one I have. The one I'm getting is out of a firehawk, and is already built up pretty nice.

How much are you selling the other one for?

honestly I havent completely decided. Kinda waiting to get the other Lt1 so I know exactly what I have and what I need and all that stuff. Kinda sucks cause I've been buying up all the stuff I needed for this LT1 and now I have to sell it. between the engine cost and what I've spent on it, I got 625 spent already. Unfortunately I do know that I'll need the harness so the engine would only come with the pcm which I sold the original OBDII and bought an OBDI pcm from a 95.

I know I'm not going to get anywhere near that much, out of it, so that sucks, but I'm open for offers. This other LT1 is costing big bucks so I'm definitely not going to be greedy. Any reasonable offer will be considered. I paid $450 for the engine so I'd be happy with 350 since I dont have a harness for it.

Well scratch that plan. God damnit. The guy that I made the deal with for the built LT1 sent me a message a few minutes ago saying he's sorry but that hes selling the engine to someone else. ****in *******. I swear to god that if he wasnt 230 miles away I'd take a road trip and stomp a mud hole in his ass. I'm so sick of rude mofo's that never keep their end of a deal.
