Ok I was thinking about building an engine, then about having one built and instead I think I am going to just buy a short block and a nice set of heads. So please let me know what you think about the following combination that I am really considering:
408 short block

An added benefit of this short block is that its fairly close in Illinois and I could pick it up and not pay shipping, but even shipping shouldnt be that bad if I chose to have it shipped
Patriot cylinder heads, the ones you can see in this closed ebay auction:

195cc aluminum, 2.02/1.60 valve
5 angle competition valve job
CNC bowl blended
64 or 68cc available
1.45 oversize springs
3/8 or 7/16 studs, competition length(long on top)
up to 5.50 lift w/ non roller cam
one piece, undercut stainless steel valves
guide plates
and my own stuff:
1.6 full roller rockers
780cfm q-jet (temporary till I get something like a Demon or BG)
Edelbrock performer rpm air gap intake
shorty headers 1 1/2 primaries 2 1/2 collector(I know its small but would be very temporary unless I sold the set and got a bigger set which would be very likely)
65K volt adjustable vacuum advance HEI distributor
electric water pump
Cam not yet known
Thats what I am seriously considering unless someone here can give me a good reason not to.
And yes I know the rest of the car would need mods to hold up, I understand that part. I would use the T5 until I killed it, then look to go automatic, or T56.
But all good things come with time, so I'm focusing on the engine now.
I am parking the car at the first snow and its going to be torn down, and be decently restored, hopefully I'll have it done by next spring. But I'd like to drop in the new motor and take it for a spin first. i'll have to be easy on it though since theres no frame mods yet.
