  • Muncie m21 problems

Does anyone know how to rebuild muncie m21 4 speed transmissions? Mine pops out of 4 gear while driving. Any clues? Thanks

First I would check your shifter to make sure it's adjusted correctly. If it's not the shifter, your 3-4th slider is toasted or the engagement teeth on 4th gear could be worn. I've been through a few Muncies and this seems to be a common problem. Unfortunately this means you'll have to disassemble most of the trans. Let me know if you plan to tackle it yourself.

WMCCRXPOWER's husband Dave is the WMCC tranny pro. Contact him if you want it rebuilt.
If you want to replace it, we have an original 50,000 mile M21 that has been checked out and is in perfect condition for $700.

Tony, i rechecked the shifter ajustment even though i just put the brand new shifter on. It was ok. I have since removed the trans and it looks like the mesh teeth are pretty worn down on the input gear which i am pretty sure is 4th gear. Are these hard to rebuild and how much do you think it would cost for me to go through it? Thanks

zmanrc, is that m21 close or wide ratio? I want to go from the 220 1st to the 252 1st gear. I'm not sure if the m21 came with the steep 1st though. I think i might have to go to a m20. Thanks

LOL! The car has a 12 bolt with 4.10 gears. Hopefully that should work well with the tko's 2.87 first gear. Doug
