Oil Psi ?

hey guys after driving for a few days straight on the e-way i started to notice that my oil psi fluctuates right at 2800-3200 rpm i normally have around 60psi or more at idle and about 50psi cruising but once i hit this rpm range it drops down to 25 psi and then once i pass it it shoots back up to 50 psi... it is a melling high volume high pressure pump... first time ive used a high pressure pump... ive been told that this sometimes happens with high pressure pumps acctually moving so fast it sucks the pan dry faster then the oil can get back down... i know this is a safe psi for that rpm range but does this sound normal for that kinda pump guys? thanks

Well, you kinda got it backwards.....high pressure will not cause a pan to get sucked dry...it's the high volume that does. I never use a high volume pump on a SBC because it is way over kill.....instead I use a high pressure Z28 spring instead on a standard volume pump.

At that rpm, you are not likely sucking the pan dry....you have something else going on, like a faulty sender or perhaps some oil cavitation.

ok it could just be my gauge and sending system its just the cheep nylon line right now to a manual gauge... nothing fancy but i do have the copper line for a more accurate reading, and the guage is nothing great so ill just try swapping them out see what happens... the guy that assembled the small block said you had to have atleast a high volume pump on the 383... i would have picked one that wasnt high psi as well, but its not in the danger zone yet... i thought it was in a funky rpm range too like i said its up shoots down then back up again...
