  • 5-Speed T5 to 6-Speed T56 Trans Swap

Has anyone here ever success fully done a 5-Speed T5 to 6-Speed T56 Trans Swap?
    Are there any good guides?

This would be a trans swap for the 3.8l V6.

    Thank You!

Sean @ CARS had mentioned this upgrade to me when I was there last summer for the east dino day, but i wasn't sure on all the details.

I wouldn't think there'd be a ton of difference and that it would be fairly simple. However I don't know the specifics on the differences on these tranny's.

The T56 is physically larger than the T5 but if your doing a 4th gen swap then you would need to gather all the V8 parts to interchange. Trans. crossmember, (if different) Driveshaft, Shifter, Also I don't know if the bellhousings are interchangable either. I would say with the right Parts it should be pretty straightforward.

I am not positive but i would say the bolt pattern on a v6 and v8 are different other than that it would be a easy swap in the 4th gen.

1995 TA Sold. i sure do miss it though.

I always try and cross transmissions with engines in cars. For example..... A 2.2 in a Sonoma has a T5 or 4L60E which is also the same tranny setup used on 4.3 Sonoma which makes sense because a 4.3 is a sawed off 350.

Ask youself, what else does a T56 come in and how does that relate to my 3.8? Viper? (hell no), Cobra? (would be sweet, but no), Camaro/Trans Am? (ding ding ding).... Now what Auto trans comes in the Camaro? A 4L60E....what auto trans comes in the 3.8? 4L60E? If so you've got a match! They use the same block weither you have an M5, M6, or A4. I'd say it fits....
