4 channel to 3 channel

Well we just brought the rear i bought last fall into our shop to do the swap tommarrow and came accross a snag. I guess I have a 3 channel rear on the bird now with 3.08s,abs,traction control and no posi. So I bought a rear off an 02 anniv. SS with 3.42s lsd and traction control. little did i know the SS was a 4 channel. I was wondering has anyone done a swap from 4 channel to 3 or is that even possible? or is there any car that came with a 3 channel, abs, traction control, posi, and 3.42s stock? otherwise its lookin like I will have to just buy gears and posi and pay to have them swapped in

haha i was gonna do some search'n for ya on LS1tech, but i see you're one step ahead young grass hoppa! you can do like that one person posted over there, or just do the ABS delete like i did in my car and throw it in!

A 3 channel car is ABS only, while a 4 channel is ABS and Traction control. My car is a 3 channel with a 3.42 posi. It doesn't have traction control. I am pretty sure you can't have a 3 channel car with TCS.

yep 4 channel means TCS. The tone wheel may be on the diff though. if it is and the hole is in the top of the housing just put the sensor in

incorrect, my dad is an auto mechanic and we looked and its definately a 3 channel, it is just that i have the sensor for traction control at the top my of differential instead of at each wheel like the 4 channel does, or something to that nature. if that were the case then i would be fine in swaping the new rear in lol

Looks like you got it figured out. But from my understanding, you cannot "convert" 4 to 3 channel or vice versa. Due to the fact that the sensor read differently and it's an entirely different system. 4 channel is more advanced by having wheel speed sensor reading individual wheel speed versus 3 channel read off the top of differential for speed reading and compare it to the front wheel. The computer and its programming is not even close.
