  • Ford 9" Axle Seal Question

I have a Moser 9" assembly for a 4th gen F-body. Because of the 4ch ABS I had to pull the axles to replace wheel studs, which also involved putting new bearings/etc. on the axles due to the backing plates needing to come off. The shop I had do this suggested I switch to the bearings with the O-ring style seals. When going to reassemble, I also now see that there are seals pressed into the axle housings and one is boogered up on the sealing surface.

Do I still need these seals due to the O-ring style bearing? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction for buying replacements? I'm assuming a slide hammer setup of some sort to remove them and some other tool I don't have to install?

Also, does anyone have suggestions for how to remove all of the silicone in here without damaging the bearing surface?

Here are some pics of the seal in the housing and the new bearings on the axles:

That bearing is basically a sealed unit with grease on the inside so oil won't pass through it and leak out of the axle. Run the same thing in my Moser Ford 9" axle in the 4th gen without an inner seal and it works perfect.
