  • Broke my trans today

Was out enjoying the nice weather beating on my car. Took off from a light hard and instead of hitting second gear it bounced to the rev limiter. Now no movement in any gear forward or reverse. Didn't make any noise or anything. Just won't move. Sitting along the road waiting for a flat bed to get me home. Gee , I WAS having a good day until a few minutes ago. Any ideas as to what broke?

That is possible. Going to look and see if the driveshaft turns. But it made no noise when it broke.

Just realized that in park car won't move do that sort of rules out the rear end.

          Rear is probably fine.

Losing all gears makes me think you exploded the vane rotor in the pump.

Trans only has 12k miles on it. Was rebuilt by Joel's on Joy. Had been shifting perfectly. Would always get a nice squawk when shifting into second at full throttle. Only shifts at 6000. Had tuner keep it a little on the safe side.

Sorry to hear this Don. Better at the end of this season than on the first outing of the next, I guess.

Was getting ready to put it away. So I will either take care of it now or maybe in the spring

I saw your post on LS1tech. MrVedit is local and helped me a lot with my build. If you're thinking of taking on the task yourself, here is my build thread(I just built my trans in September).

Update. Turns out it was the pump. Blew itself up. Should have car back in a couple of days.

Converter is probably full of shrapnel. I had a new Yank SS3600 to put in anyway. Thank goodness that converter wasn't in when the pump blew up. The old converter was a Dacco 2800 stall. Might see if it would be cost effective to get it cut and cleaned.

For sure, at least it self destructed now! That converter should help wake it up a bit, at least from what I have read.
