  • Torque converter help

My trans started its death bed today so i called a friend at macomb community college and hes willing to rebuild the trans but ill need to find a torque converter since hell be using the 2007+ 300mm input shaft. This is for my 93 4wd yukon by the way. I supply proking at work and when i called them in the past since i was plannign on using the 4.3 s10 2200 stall converter that behind a v8 it would more than likely stall around 1850 and itd be better if it was optioned with a brazed gear or ring or something. My question is where can i find something like this?
91 Trans am, 305, Lt1 cam, 24lb injectors, headers, SLP LM2, SW chassis, massive panhard, lowered, modded TPI, Tuned, 4.10s, Lincoln locked
    85 Z28 406/th400?/3.42 4th gen disc rear/4th gen dash
    00 Tahoe Z71........Stock

I guess I don't understand what you're looking for. A converter from an S10 can be bad from a boneyard.

i guess im understanding this more as i go along, the input shaft is being switched to a 300mm so i cant use the regular 298mm. i need at least 1800 stall but im not sure how to find a factory equipped 300mm converter, was that a standard behind most LS equipped vehicles? it appears an 06 vette would fit the bill perfectly if that were to be true.

secondly, will an LS series converter bolt up to a sbc flywheel?

I had to have the snout of the converter machined down to that of a standard SBC converter when I put an LS-style converter on my LT1-TH400 setup years ago. I think there's also a spacer or something you can buy as well. Don't know about lockup or anything like that as mine didn't have it.

so wqhat shall i do, the guys insistant on adding the 300mm input. itd be a hell of alot easier if i could just run the brazed s10 converter and itd stall behind the v8 right where id like it.

Tyler, call Richard at Detroit gear box and talk to him. Converters and transmisuons are what he does. He wont steer you wrong.Honest and.very knowledgeable. He can tell you why the small diameter converters are no bueno.

The cases were designed around the input drum length.

ive spoken with richard before. he actually ended up speccing me close to the same trans overhaul actually now that i went back and looked at it today. 300mm input with ls converter. Ill have the guy order my converter, hes warrantying his work and not charging me labor if i get it to him before wednesday as hes gonna make rebuilding it part of his class demonstration.

LS converter will not bolt to GenI flywheel without elongating flywheel mounting holes. You will need a different stator tube as well. I don't see why the hard on for a 300mm input drum. 298's were used for nearly 20 years.
