Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Manual trans owners in here: Fav shifters and knobs?
This is probably a stupid question, but as a 17 year old I haven't had the opportunity to drive very many stick cars. What are the main differences between stock shifters and aftermarket shifters? Feeling? Shift smoothness? Etc?
A 'short throw' shifter reduces the distance you have to move the knob to change gears. Resulting in a faster gear change. A shorter shifter stick helps with this as well. My MGW shifter feels more solid and less sloppy than the stock shifter.
Factory Hurst shifter and knob, and this winter i bought the Lou's short stick for it, heard good reviews. I have had the B&M shifter on my last manual car, and it was a decent shifter, definetely better feeling than the stock non-hurst unit.

One thing to keep in mind too is that the feel (notchiness) of the shifter isn't comprised entirely of the shifter itself. But also the weight of the clutch disc (how much it fights the synchros) and the how strong the synchros in the trans are. My shifter feels completely different with a full disc vs the 6 puck i used to have... actually planning on going back to a 6 puck for that reason driveability be damned
I went from a stock round ball with a ws6store short stick to a Hurst T-Handle.... Don't get me wrong, I love the feel of the T-Handle but for some reason I cant hit 3rd anymore with that thing. I switched out to the leather H knob after that and was running that for the better part of last year until a freak over-tightening incident caused me to have to destroy it to get it off my stick. All said and done, the leather H was my favorite. It just feels comfortable and I've never missed a gear with it.
And in terrible news, I went on to SLP's website to see how much a new one would be...$70? No thanks, I didn't like it THAT much. Time to scour the forums again

Only thing I don't like about the MGW is that there is no bolts to act as stops when your shifting like a boss. 2nd gear seems to get beat on in every 6 speed car I have ever been in.
I don't know why, but I absolutely loved my Hurst Billet/Plus with the chrome stick and a ball shift knob. Well, I should say I loved how it felt, hated how it looks. I actually liked the close-to-stock-length stick. Gave it more mechanical leverage to overcome the notchiness of the T56. I always felt like I had to reef on any shifter setup using a short stick.

If you have to fight it at all, its the weight of the clutch disc not the shifter. Pushing through it is eventually going to make your synchros hate life, thats why i want to go back to a 6 puck.
I think im going to just go with the MGW and the slp "golf club" knob
