  • Factory Aluminum Driveshaft?

So I have two aluminum driveshafts, one of which I just bought in an effort to try to fix a driveline vibration. Both individuals I bought these driveshafts from claim they are factory driveshafts (and I believe them).

Question is, whats the difference? Were there two part numbers GM used? Does one of these not look factory? There isnt any particular reason i want to know, just curious.

Whats the technical reason behind that? Is there any reason not to interchange the two?

I have removed two aluminum driveshafts from M6 cars and they both had the dampner.

Do they both have a three rivers sticker on them?

I have two aluminum driveshaft at the shop and they both have the dampner. They also have the plastic U-joint piece that you have to melt to remove the U-joint.

interesting, i need to replace my driveshaft. looks like it was spun up and dropped on a drive shaft loop. engraved all the way around. rather strange.

Maybe smaller one is from v6 and larger v8.

Nah ive owned V6s, they didnt come with aluminum driveshafts not even the Y87 performance cars.

I think Larry is closest to the answer. It looks like the smaller one is the earlier 3rd gen / 1LE drive shaft and from the sounds of it is actually the stronger of the two. Hmm.

I wonder if i can remove the damper by the yoke?
