From my reading, the newer MSD optis have been doing well. Not sure I would pay that price though.Originally posted by nascarnate326 View PostChandler from eBay would be a cost effective option. I would avoid the MSD because of the goofy timing issues.

I wasnt happy about the price but the delphis are getting scarce. Lots of places are taking your money for a genuine gm unit and are then coming up as unavailable. So I figure Ill go msd, It was $575.00 at advanced. So $465.00 is a bit better. just waiting for it to ship........any second now Im sure........

Now for the rest of the story that I am not happy to relay to you all.
Last night I got a call from my hookup at Advanced. He said, "you should come up here and look at this. I was curious and disassembled the opti you returned. It is full of metal". The short story is the debris from the holes I tapped, even though I blew it out with air, was all over the inside of the unit. I cant explain it. I am normally very thorough in what I do, but there it is. I am waiting for them to unpack it from the return bin so I can go back up and repurchase it. Since it was my error, no reason for Advanced or Rich Porter to have to eat it. Sometimes having a conscience is a pain in the ass.

I disassembled it to tap the vent holes for a fitting to convert it to a sealed vacuum vented unit, and to lock tight the rotor screws. I blew it out with compressed air but the shavings must have pocketed inside somewhere. On the earlier models the unit only has 3 passive vent holes in the bottom of the unit.
On a lighter note the manager said to forget about it, I buy enough parts from him and he wasnt worried about it. So I caught a break there.
The car is up and running. Runs pretty sweet. Took it out and about for a while to shake it down. Felt great to have it running right again. It got a bath and a bunch of scratches rubbed out and some new wax.

So for what its worth. The running method adjustment is 1/4 turn past zero lash. friken runs sweet now. might even be as little as 1/8th turn. listen to the engine as you turn the nut, if it starts to bog down and not recover loosen the rocker back up to where it ran well. Thats what I have learned.
