so today I had a cammed 99 z28 pull up next to me at a light, it turned green and we got upto about 25 maybe 30 mph, then we both floored it, my car downshifted and took off (I won surprisingly) but now I have no 2ND gear and no 4TH gear, tried to shift manually wont take 2nd but will go right into 3rd without issue, I do still have very very strong reverse, no other gears slip or have an issue, when driving in overdrive it gets to 2600RPM and jumps into 3rd, and no matter what I do it wont go into overdrive, (think it might have once but unsure) checked the fluid, its not burnt, or smelly, haven't done anything further besides try to adjust the kick down cable and that didn't do anything besides make my car try and shift higher, any ideas? read up on it some say it could be the 2-4 band? or the sun shell? If so ill just tear into this trans and replace the band and sunshell if I can, maybe even throw in a shift kit while im in there

any trans shop will have them, you can find them all over ebay as well.
If your reverse drum wasn't replaced during the last rebuild then you shouldn't use a wide band. The couple rebuilds I have done got a new reverse drum, a wide Alto Red band (I don't like Kevlar bands) and a Corvette servo. Seems to be a good holding 2-4 setup.
You will need pull the trans for this fix. When it's on the bench, remove the pan/filter/valve body to remove the holding pin for the 2-4 band. Watch out for all the check balls. Make note of where each valve body bolt came from, one bolt in the wrong spot will lock up the sun shell or low/reverse piston. Don't ask me how I know
Next you will need to pull the 2-4 servo in order to release pressure from the apply pin.
Now you pull the pump. You should be able to pull the band out from around the reverse drum. Might as well pull the reverse drum at the same time to check the wear surface with a straight edge, old ones are often noticeably worn in the center of the band contact area. Be careful of the teflon rings on the stator and input shaft. Check for wear on the stator and reverse drum bushings.

2-4 servo isn't in the pan, it's on the passenger side of the transmission just above the pan (circular cover, held in by large snap ring)
