  • need alittle cam info 292 XFI

I picked up a comp cam 292 XFI FOR THE Z28
    for a pretty good deal,

Swapped my old intake elbow and muffler for it
Well i need to know if this cam is ok to run in a
    Basically stock cube lt1 (355)

And i need pics of ok wear and **** no dont use it wear.

Ive done alittle research on this cam and found out
They can be run in a stock 350 lt1 but no info on
If its a safe bet or not.

I have a buddy with some ls2 springs im probably going to
Pick up from him, also need to know if i can run those.
Was told i could if the ls2 retainers are used,

Im really wanting to just build a nice street car that
    Is heard and seen.

Ill post pics of the cam and wear it has.

20130511_234140[1].jpg20130511_234151[1].jpg20130511_234309[1].jpgby the oil pump drive gear is what im worried about, I know nothing touches there but I have no clue if its going to damage my motor, the rest of the wear seems not bad at all, but you can tell it has wear, guy says he ran it for 1500 miles, if that, im thinking not,

also need to know how to degree this cam once installed, is it as simple as line the dots up throw the chain on and cover it up?

You "can" use it, you will not get the most out of it with out aftermarket or machined heads. I have heard of those cams being tested up over 7000 and still not reaching peak power. I have also heard horror stories of it destroying springs because people aren't using good enough springs with them.

alright, that's good to hear, I was really worried about it being too big, I mainly want the sound of a cammed car, as long as im not losing power, I don't care if I only gain 20rwhp, I can get the gaskets for close to free,

You will lose out some low end power, that cam makes it's peak higher then our PCMs will let it rev. I don't think you would lose power per say, just not make much more until 6000+
Personally I would sell it on tech and try to get something else that you will gain more with up to 6500 or so. But that is just my .02

                  re

I mean if i do run this cam ill be machining the heads
To flow better and get an angle job done on the valves

But im wanting to run ls series springs on my lt so
                  Can it be done?

Why not just run some golds or comp springs? To make power with that cam you will need to rev the piss out of it, I would look into an LT4 for what your goal is. LE or AI would be the best route, but that costs money.

That is a ton of lift, no stock LS style spring will work that I know of. XFI cams are ground for 1.6:1 rockers.

That is pretty hefty cam, not sure if you'd like the street manners since your stall is too low.

I found out with roller rockers its a 584 lift and a 292 duration. With stock rockers its 564 lift and 272 duration.

At least that's what I'm guessing. On jegs website it says this cam makes power from 2000 rpm to 9000rpm HOLY SHIT! Was my reaction to that sight.

So if what I read is true then I'll probably like this cam a lot.

I have plans of having a better shift kit installed and a bigger stall. I'm thinking 2600 stall. Nothing out rageous I still want it to be very street able.

What could happen if I use this cam with my 2200 stall?
And on he chance I sell this can to my buddy (running a stock stall) what could be expected?

You'd probably experience surging unless you find a very good tuner, even that might be a stretch. Stock injectors will max out quickly. I'd say this cam would have a steep start of the power band a bit above 2200rpm. Also, this cam will need some high compression - I looked at it a couple years back and most were running a minumum of 11:1 static CR for this cam.

A good shift kit probably won't be enough. This cam would put a LT1 to the point where it will likely eat stock parts.

I have a similar cam in my manual IROC - low speed road manners are terrible! It will shit 'n get above 2600 rpm though
