  • HELP: 383 LT1 oil pan choice.

So I am trying to find a oil pan to clear my new rotating assembly and to fit in my car well. I am just posting to get a feeler of what people are out there using and what one is the best or the pros and cons of all the ones people on this site are using. I am looking a the moroso pans on summit. To be honest i dont have a clue what any of it means. My motor has a 3.75 crank with 6" rods. i know the stock one could fit if clearenced but id rather do it right. I dont know if i need one with crank scrappers, kickouts, dipstick provisions, etc....

    I found these two

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mo...make/chevrolet

There are diffrences in them both but i honestly dont know what would be better or worse.

I also found this link on tech that kinda helped find a good one but still didnt clear it up in my mind

SOO the main question is whos using what and what are your opinions on the choices of aftermarket pans for you LT1?

Thanks ahead for any advice or help!

Did you look into the Milodon 30909? Granted I don't think the Moroso pans were available back when I bought it (8-9 years ago) but I haven't heard of a single complaint about that pan although admittedly I don't think a ton of people know about it.

I have used the Milodon 30909 Steering rack clearance is an issue. But it can be made to work, do not run just the windage tray that comes with it. I did and had windage issues, I think another tray could be added in stock location.

I am now running the Moroso LT1 pan. Low oil sensor hole is a waste even with a plug in it, I had to grind the plug down to clear my header. KOOKS 1 7/8.
It has a crank scrapper and trap doors I added a windage tray. Check the welds on it before install mine had a pin hole leak and I had to remove it to repair! It does clear the steering rack real nice. It also doesnt like the fel-pro LT1 gasket use something else!

Stock pan can be made to fit Probably a good option, A lot of people use it for strokers, I think there is some issues with 4 bolt caps and windage tray clearance?

Huh, the 30909 cleared my steering rack just fine.

I was planning on using a stock pan on my 383 that's still in pieces.

What are you going to run for a windage tray in your 383 with stock pan?

Probably just my luck with new motor mounts it was just touching the rack!

I had new poly mounts too, although I did have a BMR tubular K-member with the one motor mount integrated into the K-member. Don't know if that would make any difference.
