the car is a 96 firebird, the 3.8 with an automatic. its throwing a code, P1870 manufacturer control transmission. i dont know anything at all about automatic transmissions. i think p is for pass and r is for race but thats all i know. ive read a little bit about it and so far i guess its a stuck valve? i checked it out a little further and the tranny fluid wasnt even reaching the dipstick it was so low, could this cause the code? somebody please school me.

i have a feeling somebody will try and teach me what the letters really mean so j/k on the p and r thing.

P1870 oa transmission component slipping. Is the lockup converter working ?? predominately this is what sets this code.

im not sure... how would i tell if it was? the acceleration seemed pretty bad to me but the rpms dont climb like if it were a clutch slipping, also its pretty smooth. i put in a quart and a half of tranny fluid i had in my garage and it still wasnt near full and it was nasty brown.
