I was pulling my transmission out to freshen it up some.

Noticed on top on the input drum there was a weird orfice.

On my other spares there is a different capsule with a check ball in it.

Also found a check ball capsule in my spare parts...

Not sure when/why it was put in.
Any input in appreciated!

People remove the check ball for quicker converter lockup

I thought that was the one in the end of the input shaft?

I posted this up on tech too.
I guess I must have put it in as it is part of the HD2 kit.

It is the 3/4 clutch air bleed orifice. The idea is that air can escape before
the hydraulic fluid seals the check ball and thereby can pressurize the 3/4
clutch.
Many performance builders will say that the check ball will unseat at
high RPM (6000+ ??) and therefore create a major leak leading to 3/4 clutch
failure. Therefore, some builders remove the stock orifice and replace it with a
simple, much smaller bleed hole. The Transgo HD2 kit includes such an orifice.
Another company makes a spring-loaded orifice, but in my measurements it was too
big and could touch the reverse drum.
