your going to have about 1500 into building one.. its best to just keep an eye out and watch other forums that are more directed at racing.. like racingjunk.com yellowbullet.com or even motowmmuscle.com has a few every now and then..

Go 4l80e and never look back. well if you drive your car a lot. If its just a weekend warrior\track car th400 should be fine.

If you plan on never taking it on the freeway or above 50-60mph cruise speed, you might get away with a TH400. Otherwise, get the overdrive. I absolutely hated driving my car without an overdrive, but then again I like driving my car more than just around town.

3.73 at the time. With 26" tires it blew. With 28's it was a little better but still hated it. Would have much rather had the overdrive for the freeway.

I don't think my car will ever really see the freeway. I wish the 4l60 was worth rebuilding for performance. Im sure it will be simpler to find a built th400 than 4l80

It's all a matter of opinion. I know with the 26" tires and 3.73 gears, keeping up with traffic on the freeway (75-80mph) was around 3800rpm for me. For me, it got very old very quick. I'd much rather be in the mid-low 2k's.

the high cruise rpm does a number on late model pistons. The short skirts allow rocking. Some aftermarket forged pistons(like Diamond) want a ton of piston to wall clearance which makes this even worse. The high rpm also causes oil use from the piston rocking at those speeds

Im honestly not worried about the freeway lol. Im more focused now on what ill need to make a th400 work besides trans mount and drive shaft. Like which converter and don't I need some shield?
