  • Questions about a 3.73 in a 3rd gen

Anybody running 3.73s or 4.10s in a t5 third gen? I'm looking to lose the current gear for something with a little more grunt without losing my ability to run on the freeway.

    I'm running a 3.23 right now and have a 5 speed. At 70mph I'm pulling about 2300rpm in overdrive.

    Suggestions?

You can buy my T5 and put 4.10s in and pull 2100rpm in 5th

I have a WC with a .56 overdrive instead of your .78 ratio. With your trans, a 3.73 would be about 2650rpm at 70 or 2900rpm with 4.10

Also, the 2.95 first gear of the WC is better suited for numerically higher gears. Your 3.35 first gear along with those gears would make 1st gear duration very short

You really want that trans gone! I've hardly had a chance to break mine yet!

It's just sitting on the bench Is yours a regular T5? Watch out with third gear, the like to snap teeth

Darren should has a WC T5 with a .63 overdrive, if that's the original transmission anyway.

Mike, I'd go no higher than a 3.73 with your tranmission, maybe even 3.42

Mike's transmission will run a little under 20% higher rpm's in 5th gear than yours, keep that in mind.

I'm honestly not sure. The PO did a lot of the mechanical work - I just got it buttoned up, painted, and working properly. Is there a way to tell which 5 speed i have in the car?

My RPO codes show a 3.23.

Even with that information I would still not hesitate to recommend going to a 3.73 gear. Anything less then 3.73 IMO will not even be noticeable for the work to be worth it. In reality if I had the motivation and extra time and a shorter "to do list" on my car I would be swapping my rear to 4.10's....

You need to check the casting number on the main case housing

3.42 would be a good compromise. 4:10s are good in a 6 speed, I wouldn't necessarily put them in the t5.

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

4.10 rear gear with a 3.35 first gear would be like the granny first gear in an old pickup truck
