Some questions about my car not wanting to shift at high RPMs. When I try and pass (flooring it) it wants to bounce off the rev limiter unless i let up a little. Also at the track if I put it to the floor, it shifts just fine, until Im almost at the end of the track when it should shift again, it hits the rev limiter, not all the time but enough for me to question whats going on. If I drive the car normally
it shifts fine or even spirited driving it shifts fine. 1st and 2nd are perfect no matter how Idrive but 3rd and OD worry me. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I do plan on upgrading to a bigger stall this winter, probably a 3500, nothing bigger because it is a daily driver while its nice out. Thanks guys.

i had the same problem and had to buy a whole new trans.... like it wouldn't want to shift sumtimes into 4th when i raced and then also it seems like it slipped into 4th and i found out they have sum things that need to be replaced cause they aren't that strong and will deterate after 50000

BS.
If you have a datalogger like HP Tuners or EFI Live, log your run when you hit the rev limiter. 10 to 1 odds you're hitting the last cell in you MAF tables when you're supposed to be shifting. It's the same thing mine's doing this year, and did last year when I was shifting 600 rpms higher. The car is supposed to switch to using the VE tables when the MAF fail frequency is hit, but it doesn't do it right away. I've spent almost 3k and had my tranny out and inspected twice before I discovered that it only happens when I hit the last cell in my MAF table. Seeing as how you have a '98 F-body, I'm betting you're hitting the same thing too. Do you have the factory MAF, or did you upgrade to a 85mm? I've been told the 85mm will actually make things worse.www.V10Killer.com

Is it possible my t/a is doing the same thing(m6)? When i shift near redline, it feels like the rpms fluctuate through the shift. I have the SLP 85mm maf. I would think it is my clutch but it works great doing anything else and if i short shift it before the redline, problem solved. It doesnt slip at all doing anything else.

Ok here what is going on with that. Its not the MAF maxing out as much as it is a TQ step lookup issue. You could go into the tune and increase the FT LB requirement for a TQ step look up ( in the transmission Constants) and bumping that value should easily fix the bump at the top of the table. Although i would be more inclined to belive its a line pressure issue. We've got an A4 427 car that is always maxing the MAF no shifting trouble as of yet. the only other culprit might be the expected air vs TPs table. but again it shouldn;t cuase this issue.Originally posted by V10KillerBS.

A stock A4 car with a factory motor only pulls around 280grs/sec well below even the 85mm maf max.
