Rear end help/????????

Long story short I bought a used Moser 9"(I highly recommend buying new, will never go used again). Upon receipt I found the passenger side bearing housing needed replaced(Moser thought spun bearing). I had a new end housing installed, all new bearings throughout, etc. Started cruising, after about 300ish miles I noticed a leak on the passenger side seal. Pulled axle, had new bearing/seal pressed on. Re-installed and went for a 5 mile drive. When I got back I crawled under car and felt pass side axle housing, VERY hot to the touch. Then felt drivers side, ice cold.. I was told a dragging brake could cause this, I've checked my calipers and replaced my rotors.. I don't hear any unusual noises, rear works great other than the excessive heat on passenger side. I know if I keep driving it the seal will fail again. Any ideas?

only source of heat is friction. If the housing or axle on that side isn't straight it could cause heat in the bearing. When you replaced the bearing and seal, what kind of shape was the bearing in?

I am using set20 bearings. both were brand new...

Do you have a non contact thermometer? If you do, find where the heat is coming from. My whole rear housing gets pretty warm after an extended drive... Usually 140ish. When I was breaking in a new gearset it would hit 180 degrees.

No I don't. Guess I'll just drive it a bit and see if the heat calms down on the passenger side. I have read new bearings create more heat initially.

Just a little update, borrowing a friends temp gun. Going to take it for a ride and shoot some temps on both sides. See if I can figure out where this heat is coming from..

Edit: forgot I put new rotors and pads on the rear Saturday, checked calipers, everything looked good. Went for ride and passenger side still very hot.. Hoping the temp gun tells me something..

Yea, I have been talking with James and the shop and they both feel dragging brake, which makes sense after checking temps today.

Drivers side: Rotor- 141* Passenger side: Rotor-191*
Drivers side: End housing- 102* Passenger side: End housing- 160*
Calipers were within 10* of each other..

This was after a 4-5 mile drive not exceeding 50 mph. So I can only imagine driving farther and faster, would get pretty damn hot!!

Guess I shall order a rebuild kit for the rears and go through them.. Anyone happen to have a link for rear caliper rebuild kits?

Over $100 when you add core charge. Mine were ground down for my first drag rims.. They won't take them in exchange.
