  • New here need head cam 12 bolt up grade

I had Sean do kooks headers (off road) ls6 intake and sub frame to my SS this spring. Now looking in to head cam 12 bolt up grade.
The cam Sean likes seems way to big for the streets ? 373 or 410 on a new12 bolt (DTS?)
I do not want a drag car. This is a cruise night nice day weekend car only.
I want to keep the RELIEABLE but fast. So please suggest some set ups .

Hes got Patriot heads, the cam specs are Sean's secret but its a little bigger than my MS3 if that tells you anything He has 3.90 gears is a custom built 9" by DTS. He hasn't had it to the track yet though, but he'd better soon.

that is a great street cam, but I have a 239/242 cam and drive it daily. Its all in the tune. Seans cam is bigger than this but if tuned properly there is no reason you couldn't drive it daily. It all depends on your goals for the car.

woa haven't gotten back to this thread in a minute, yeah what jeff said is all correct. Seans Cam with Patriot LS6 style (5.7) heads. 9" with 3.89 gears and that's the big stuff anyways. you can click on my little "visit garage" thing and it has absolutly everything in it.

The TR224 cam is great, but like Jeff said, depends on what you wanna do with the car. if all you want is 390 rwhp, then it's a great cam. my new CARS cam idles and runs around town just as smooth and easy as my thunder cam did. and it's making a solid 40 more hp to the wheels then the thunder cam did.

I'm sure you know how it feels, since sean took you for a loop in it, and he isn't afraid to put the hammer down on it, and i don't mind one bit if he does either!

Hey just so you know Strange engineering just started making a Dana 60 rear end for our cars like 3 months ago so Its not even in their catalog. Vast improvment over the 12 bolts and the best part is they run about $150 bucks less than the 12 bolts do.

                            i have a 9" that i got from Scott@Driveline-solutions.com

he is out of roseville and a pretty good rear end builder.

generally the "rule of thumb" is Auto's go with 12 bolts, Manuals go with 9"

if your car is a 3 channel (that's no ASR/Traction Control) then you will lose your ABS with a 9". that's why the new dana S60 is great because you can keep your ABS with a 3 channel car. but if you have a 4channel rear end (ASR and ABS) the 9" will keep them both!

i personally have a 9" and a 3 channel car, so i no longer have ABS, which i am not too concerned about due to the fact it stays inside on shitty days!

I get most of what your saying but Im still learning about rear ends, so whats is a "channel"? IF I get what your saying I have a 4 channel (both ABS and ASR?) rear end, so If I went to a dana S60 I would have to give up one of the systems?( ASR for sure)
