  • T56 gone bad?

Well.. Getting into reverse has become a thing of the past. It literally only seems to go in when I don't even necessarily need it lol. Anytime I go to get out of a parking space or even back into one so that I can pull out of it just in case it doesn't go in when I come back out of work or wherever I may be, I can never seem to get it to go in. Also, every gear goes in a little hard ever since I replaced the clutch and even had the line bled out so That's not the issue for sure. There's a little bite when i'm shifting into fifth.. not really a grind but I kind of pulls itself in with a slight shake. Really hard to explain unless you're driving it. But needless to say, I think some synchros may need to be replaced and I have no idea what to do about reverse??
If anyone can tell me the best route to take please let me know and also if anyone is willing to do a rebuilt for some cash then I'd be totally up for it if that's the case.
But I have however found a 2002 t56 out of a wrecked corvette.. Will that bolt up exactly like the original and also not need a tune or anything of the sort?
    Thanks,

    Andrew

A t56 out of a vette will not bolt up to an lt1, they have different bell housings and different input shafts. If you can find out what exactly is wrong with it, you might be able to get it fixed for cheap.

I would almost guess that you're clutch isn't fully disengaging when you push the clutch in.

I would do what Larry said and see if that car moves. If it does then your slave or master cylinder is bad or both.

I had the exact same problem, put a tick performance adjustable master cylinder on fixed the problem for a year then it happened again, pulled the transmission and found I had a faulty clutch, the rivots holding the clutch together blew apart, at that time I also replaced the slave cylinter too

Yes, reverse is synchronized . That's why the t56 has a reverse lock out noid they is used above 5mph

Actually just replaced the slave and master cylinder for the clutch system when I had the new one installed a couple months ago

I will definitely try this out. I have actually noticed that when i'm at a stop light and the car is in 1st but I have the clutch all the way in that it just... barellllly moves. I was on totally flat ground and it seems to creep forward a bit even with the clutch applied. It's only happened a couple of times but I noticed it the most the other day on my way to work. I'll try and get it up in the air sometime this weekend and try it out and see if the wheels spin. If they do then where do I go from here? I had the clutch bled out already when I replaced the master cylinder and it was ok after that. I have a little play in my shifter even when it's in gear but only up and down. It stays in... never comes out of gear but it just feels a little loose when it's in. And damn does reverse go in hard... if sometimes at all.

Hopefully this is the issue. I'll try and get it up tomorrow and check it out and hopefully that its just something simple. I'm just worried that driving it like this with this issue might have hurt something because today I got it into reverse a couple times in a row when I was doing a few things in Midland and had no issue gettting out of parking spaces but the last time when I got home and backed into my spot it decided it wanted to grind when I tried to put it in.. and the clutch pedal was all the way down. went in great after the grind though lol.

Just recently replaced my clutch master cylinder when I had the new clutch put in. And I just tried this out today and it doesn't move at all..

Not to hijack the thread but I kind of have the same issue. My gears are hard to shift into. Reverse takes a bit of force to get into. I miss 2nd gear often when hard shifting...Maybe I'm just weak I don't want to hurt my trans by forcing it into gear. I feel as if it shouldn't take so much effort.
