best rods for the cost? blown motor? WTF?

Well, that's not a good sign. Sounds like he is back peddling already. Ask him is it doesn't matter which way the rods go, then why did this happen. Hoping for the best for you Mike.

LS engines have an oiling issue? Hm ok... maybe if you pinch the o-ring on the pick-up tube, but other than that I've never heard of a bearing being spun because the stock oil pump isn't sufficient. Are you you using a stock pump or a LS6?

The second ring should be black with a real fine silver line. The line is what touches the bore . If that line not like the thickness of a piece of paper then the piston to wall clearance is too much. The line gets wider cause of the piston rocking in the bore . The way way the skirts look is suspect

ported ls6 pump. rings looked basic, like any ring would i guess. i took pics and will load them tonight. hopefully they are decent pics

sp paul my builder calls me this morning and says for $453 he will put my shortblock back together. says bearings show low or no oil which hes blaming a failed oil pump. so two new rods, main, and rod bearings, and the machining of the crank basically. says cam bearings are good. i asked even with 4 rods being in backwards he doesnt think that caused the issue? he says no. wtf? so what do i do? im freaking pissed. says he will install the rods correctly this time. and on top of the $450 im going to need a new oil pump, gaskets and head bolts

That sucks! I would just redo it yourself mike.

Get the crank turned by a different shop and throw it together yourself so you have no one else to blame for a failure next time.

I wouldn't trust him. He still fails to see why this happened. It's probably not going to end well if you let him redo it. I'd tell him to fix it for $0 or else you gonna go find a competent shop to do it right. Even if he agreed to that, I would double check everything once you get it back home.

agreed... i would be saying the same thing.. i think he is just blaming it on the oil pump and using that as an excuse to cover his work..

Talked with my motor builder and he says this guys is feeding u crap, if the oiling system was not working it would have failed sooner. Its very obvious he didn't put together right and to have him learn on your dollar is just insane. The rods are shot, crank is questionable find someone else to fix this before this guy cost you more money.

if you dont want him to rebuild it be brutally honest or tell him your going to get a bigger engine and want that one back, then redo it yourself. that is very crappy that hes blaming it on something when we all could see what the issue was.

the oil pump may have failed. LS pumps and sensitive to debris. where did the debris come from> probably from the rod that were installed incorrectly.

Its Paul's choice to make the decision to charge for the mistake. Its only hurting his good reputation he's got so far. It was just a mistake that was made and kinda gotta deal with it.

contacted him again and told him id be in to pick it up. shitty cause the rods werent numbered before and im sure its now completely disassembled.

I don't think it matters if they were numbered. The only reason they do it is to keep the cap and rods together.

I think on LS motors they have to go back together cause of the design. But I'm sure he put the caps right back on the rods when he took them apart.
