  • Ok so what do you guys think? blown converter?

Ok the car is a 84 camaro with a 383 stoker, and a th350 trans.

Last year the trans went because of a gouge in the case where the valve body goes on, and was cross feeding.
I had the trans rebuild by a guy I thought would be trust worthy, I gave him a new case, TCI manual reverse valve body and full rebuild kit. Then I bought a new TCI street fighter converter 3300-3500 stall. As soon as I put the trans in, reverse sliped, and it didnt shift good, I was very disapointed. But I kept driving it.

SO, last friday night on woodward I was heading home going threw bloomfiled hills, I started getting on it a little and it made a small boom, and it wouldnt go anywhere, only park worked, every thing else was like neutral. SO I trailerd it home and on satuday I put in another 350 trans (that I KNOW works) with the same converter from the old trans, The fluid in the converter was very clean. So I try and drive it, and its the same thing, the car wont go anywhere. So im guessing my new TCI conveter with 165 miles on it blew. Im going to call summit and TCI to get a new one, But in the meen time I want the car to move, so Im going to put another converter I have in it (2500 stall) and see what happens.

Sorry for the long story, But this car has always givin me trouble with the trans.

sounds like you blew one of the hard parts(planitary/drum ect..) out of the trans.

Could have sheered the splines off the turbine in the converter.

Needs to be cut open to find out.

      TCI's are junk IMO.

TCI converters are unfortunately known to be junk.

Well it was the converter. I took the trans back out, and put in a stock converter. And it works fine. Although the car is slow, and doesnt idle with the stock converter lol.

Well TCI is going to send me a new converter (or actually summit) Even thought it was over 90 days ago that I bought it.
